this is me.

With over 20 years of experience working in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, I’m a global leader tackling complex challenges by building collaborative ecosystems with industries, public sector, academia, civil society and startups.

  • In the corporate sector, I’ve worked with customers and communities in four continents to understand their challenges and opportunities. For nearly a decade, leading business consulting and commercial teams at IBM in South America and Asia-Pacific. Since 2021, I’ve led the design and activation of the intelligent automation and global food innovation strategies at Cargill, one of the world’s largest agribusinesses. As Head of Innovation and Ecosystems, I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance our current global food systems, focusing on sustainable, responsible technology and the partnerships with key stakeholders that will give the world access to healthy and nutritious food.

  • As an entrepreneur, I’ve co-founded two AI/data ventures in East Africa and Latin America, leading the development of solutions for water conservation, clean energy and digital literacy that have positively impacted more than 20.000 families since 2015. Our work has proven that impact investment and social entrepreneurship can positively drive policy innovation and community empowerment, being recognised with awards for “Admired & Transformational Leadership” (2021), “Courageous Women in Entrepreneurship” (2022), and “Top Innovator: Digital Democracy” (2023).

  • In parallel, the rapidly increasing threats of the climate crisis inspired a collaborative three-year research project into predictive models for ice sheet melting and sea-level rise, culminating in an Antarctic expedition in 2023 as part of an all-women/NBI scientific leadership program dedicated to Antarctic science and the role of technology in solving the climate crisis.

This diverse career journey has led to ultimately commit my energy in three areas:

exploring ethical applications for AI, addressing the systemic risks of technology, and championing human and planet-centric solutions.

I’ve worked as an expert consultant on AI Ethics since 2018, advising governments in the Global South on AI policy strategies. In a multi-sectoral effort, we co-launched fAIrLAC -the Latin American Ethical AI Observatory- to advance AI governance in the region. This work led to being selected as a Fellow for the AI Connect program, a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the Atlantic Council, where I frequently contribute to global AI policy and governance discussions.

Academically, I hold an MPhil degree in AI Ethics & Society from the University of Cambridge and a Technology MBA from NYU Stern. Originally from Costa Rica, I’ve lived and worked around the world and now reside in London, UK with my family.
